Job Description The Childbirth Educator RN reflects the mission,
vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of
Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all
relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory
and accreditation standards. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The primary
purpose of this position is to provide prenatal education to
expectant parents. This will primarily be done in a formal,
structured group, or classroom setting, but many also be conducted
in a one-to one less formal interaction. This position requires a
high-level individual with excellent presentation skills, a
clinical background in labor and delivery as well as other
maternal/newborn areas, and the fluidity and savvy to assess and
monitor the culture and tone of each class, responding seamlessly
to changing group dynamics to provide the optimal education
experience. Responsibilities : Provides childbirth preparation and
other related prenatal education to expectant couples in a
classroom setting, via the Great Expectations or Great Expectations
Refresher curriculum. Works with department leadership team to
review and update class curriculum to reflect changing clinical
practice recommendations. Identifies learning needs and provides
individualized instruction based on the needs of the group.
Evaluates the effectiveness of the teaching intervention and
adjusts the teaching accordingly. Utilizes and projects an
empowerment model that fosters positive health decision making and
self-management of diseases and conditions. In collaboration with
other department colleagues and NMH staff, assists in planning,
implementing, and evaluating women's health programs for the
community. Special projects as identified or assigned. AA/EOE.
Qualifications Required : Registered nurse through IL Dept. of
Professional Regulation Certification in one or more major
education specialties, such as BLS instructor per AHA or certified
childbirth educator through ICEA, PCE, Lamaze, etc. BSN 1-2 years
group teaching experience; at least one year of labor and delivery
staff RN experience or postpartum nursing experience, depending on
area of program focus for the department. Preferred : RN specialty
certification in a maternal/child clinical area. Additional
