ExemptLocation: Hybrid Work SchedulePOSITION SUMMARY:The
instructional designer is responsible for designing and creating
engaging online activities, resources, and courses primarily
through the Michigan Virtual Student Learning and Professional
Learning Portals. Course development involves collaboration with
internal and external experts. The instructional designer utilizes
tools such as CourseArc, Camtasia, and Storyline to produce and
integrate online content, including licensed materials. This role
provides consultation, training, and support to team members and
external clients, and offers input on course creation strategies to
promote sound instructional design principles.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS &
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Meet project timelines for self and team members.
- Design and develop educational content, assessments, and
courses for online environments with support.
- Collaborate with internal staff and external consultants to
ensure sound instructional design.
- Provide consultation and support on course design and
functionality.
- Maintain existing courses.
- Create educational content using multimedia and instructional
technology tools.
- Explain instructional design theories and practices used in
course design.
- Ensure content aligns with applicable standards (e.g., Michigan
Science Standards, CCSS).
- Apply course quality standards (e.g., Quality Matters, WCAG,
Style Guide) during development and evaluation.
- Incorporate feedback into projects.
- Conduct learner feedback reviews and participate in debrief
meetings to improve courses.
- Document design processes, course descriptions, and syllabi
accurately.
- Collaborate with team members and pursue professional
development to improve design practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.OTHER DUTIES & TASKS:
- Attend staff and departmental meetings.
- Participate in company-wide functions as requested.
- Engage in professional learning opportunities as
directed.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree with 9 credits in
instructional design or educational technology, or equivalent
education and experience. A Master's degree in related fields is
strongly preferred.REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:Instructional Designer I
(minimum):
- 0-3 years of experience in instructional design and online
course development.
- Experience with LMS/CMS, preferably Brightspace.
- Experience with multimedia and content development tools such
as Storyline, Adobe Suite, Camtasia, Audacity, H5P, and
CourseArc.Instructional Designer II (minimum):
- 2-5 years of experience in instructional design and online
course development.
- Experience with LMS/CMS, preferably Brightspace.
- Experience with multimedia and content development tools such
as Storyline, Adobe Suite, Camtasia, Audacity, H5P, and
CourseArc.DESIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Experience developing online or blended K-12 courses.
- Experience as an online or classroom teacher.
- Experience with SCORM or xAPI content development.
- Knowledge of instructional design, assessment methodology, and
online assessments.
- Attention to detail and strong writing skills for design
specifications and proposals.
- Interpersonal skills and ability to work remotely.
- Ability to manage complex workloads and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with LMS platforms, especially Brightspace.
- Ability to use course creation tools like CourseArc, Storyline,
and Camtasia.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.
- Effective communication across diverse groups and cultural
boundaries.
