Position Type: Nature & Greenhouse/StaffDate Posted: 3/4/2022Location: Multiple LocationsJOB IDENTIFICATION Job Title: Greenhouse Staff Grade: V- $15.00 an hour FLSA: Non-Exempt Department: Parks SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS Reports to: Landscape Maintenance Supervisor Supervises: Part-Time staff BASIC FUNCTION Greenhouse staff is responsible for the upkeep of the greenhouse and tend to the various flower beds throughout the District. In addition, performs skilled and semi-skilled landscape maintenance. Seasonal, April - November. Annual hours will not exceed 950. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Management of Greenhouse operations including seasonal staff assigned to horticulture operations. Read and lay out landscape designs from drawings. Perform planting and maintenance of all flowerbeds including annuals and ornamentals. Perform applications of herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers on plant material in greenhouse and planting beds. Identify turf and ornamental diseases and treats as necessary. Maintain turn areas including mowing, trimming, aerating and spraying for weeds. Prunes hedges and trees. Inspect parks and clean up debris. Inspect, cleans, maintains and performs routine maintenance on equipment. Supervise crews as needed. Prepare reports and plans relating to the horticulture operations. OTHER DUTIES Assist administrative staff with special maintenance requests. May be required to perform overtime work as requested or required, including weekends. Assist patrons with providing information as requested. Follow all safety policies and procedures as outlined in the Park District Safety and Crisis Manuals Perform additional duties as assigned. POSITION QUALIFICATION Education: High school diploma or equivalent with additional technical skills. Must be at least 18 years of age. Experience: Two year related experience with annual and perennial plant propagation required. Certifications: Valid Illinois Driver's License required. Obtain Illinois Pesticide Operator's and Applicator's License within 3 months.
