Depending on candidate location, this position does have the
ability to be hybrid or remote.
Essential Functions:
* Receive and initiate timely reviews of new assignments and then
analyze policies, endorsements, and circumstances reported to
determine what coverages, if any, apply to a particular
claim/accident.
* Immediately issue an appropriate reservation of rights letter for
any and all coverage issues.
* Communicate directly with insureds, claimants, witnesses,
doctors, attorneys, body shops, and others by telephone, through
written correspondence, and occasionally in person.
* Conduct prompt investigations by securing recorded statements
from insureds, claimants, and witnesses and obtaining police
reports or any other documentation pertinent to the
investigation.
* Obtain and verify damages including, but not limited to obtaining
copies of repair estimates; medical bills; medical records, and
photographs.
* Review, interpret, and evaluate all information to ascertain the
proper amount of damages for any type of claim/exposure. This
includes interpreting/understanding medical terminology and
analyzing the condition or injury.
* Adjust, negotiate, and settle claims for proper amounts within
authorization or as directed by your manager; secure releases then
issue settlement drafts or deny unjustified claims as soon as
practical (authorization from manager on all questionable matters,
on all settlements exceeding adjuster's authorization, and on all
claims prior to denial).
* Maintain strict diary on all active files. Fully document all
activity on open or closed claims using the appropriate system.
This includes a record of all contact, investigation, negotiations
and documentary evidence.
* Properly identify subrogation opportunities, and mail appropriate
letters associated with the intent to pursue recovery from an
at-fault party.
* Recognize suspicious claims, and elevate to the Special
Investigations Unit for further handling.
* Adhere to the Rules and Regulations set forth by the Department
of Insurance, state specific.
* At the Unit Managers direction, monitor existing non-litigated
inventory to ensure Claims Representatives are adhering to the
Rules and Regulations set forth by the Department of Insurance.
Further, audit claim files to identify trends, settlement
opportunities, and that closure guidelines are being followed.
* Ongoing mentoring to existing claim staff, including Claim
Service Representatives and Claim Representatives. At the Unit
Manager's direction, provide settlement authority to Claim
Representatives.
Experience: At least 2 years of relevant claims handling
experience.
Education: Associate degree, or equivalent work experience is
required. Insurance and Management related courses helpful.
