We Are Hiring:

Ascension Rx is looking for Long Term Care Pharmacy Technicians to join the Long Term Care Pharmacy team!

What You Will Do:

Ascension Rx is looking for a Long Term Care Pharmacy Technician to support our Long Term Care Pharmacy. You will be responsible for providing distributive pharmacy services and technical support to the pharmacist.


Medication order processing and filling:

  • Prepares solid and liquid medications for dispensing accurately and efficiently.  Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to updating new patient medication orders, filling individual cassettes, filling patient prescriptions for home use and billing. 
  • Maintains a working knowledge of the dispensing system to facilitate the solution of problems. 
  • Processes refills as needed for individual patients.
  • Labels all orders correctly including any auxiliary labels as needed.
  • Performs miscellaneous typing and filing.  
  • Acquires age appropriate knowledge and skills in relationship to new drugs and procedures necessary for the job assignments.

Medication Distribution:

  • Delivers medications and supplies safely and accurately to the nursing unit, stock area, etc. 
  • Coordinates and follows up on the delivery of medication and supplies
  • Picks up discontinued and unused medications and processes them for credit in a timely             manner.
  • Refill and maintain automated dispensing systems (Omnicell, Pyxis)
  • Processes documentation associated with deliveries (Delivery logs, prescription pick-up, Controlled Substance docs, etc)

Inventory Control:

  • Maintains a basic understanding of state and federal narcotic laws and assumes responsibility for narcotic control/delivery under the direction of a registered pharmacist.
  • Assists purchasing agent(s) placing, receiving, verifying, and stocking drug orders.  
  • Helps maintain adequate inventory levels of drugs and related materials.  
  • Informs supervisor/purchasing person of stock needs or stock shortages in a timely manner.
  • Places returned items back in inventory in a timely manner.
  • Checks expiration dates on stock both in the pharmacy and in floor stock.
  • Assists in the care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies.
  •  Maintains working area and equipment in a clean and orderly state.

Automation/computer knowledge and use:

  • Has basic typing and computer skills to aid in the use of the pharmacy computer software.
  • Works with automated packaging equipment efficiently and accurately, maintaining the required cleaning and paperwork.
  • Works with automated dispensing equipment efficiently and accurately throughout all locations, maintaining all records accurately. 

Intravenous Medication Dispensing and Preparation:

  • Fills premixed intravenous medications and solutions.
  • Has a basic understanding of aseptic technique and demonstrates USP 797 competency. 
  • Aseptically prepares intravenous solutions as ordered.
  • Performs laminar hood cleaning per protocol and documents completion. 
  • Assists Pharmacists in the preparation of all intravenous medications and solutions using         aseptic technique and correct parenteral dose calculations for admixed products.

Third Party Insurance and Managed Care Billing:

  • Assists our Billing Analyst in claim submission to third party insurance carriers
  • Works with physician offices in initiating and completing Prior Authorizations
  • Supports Billing Analyst in processing Payor Status Changes on each resident
  • Contact third party payors for claim resubmission
What You Will Need:

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • Pharmacy Tech credentialed from the National Healthcareer Association preferred
  • Pharmacy Tech credentialed from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) preferred
  • Pharmacy Intern preferred


  • High school diploma/GED with 2 years of experience, or Associate's degree, or Technical degree required
Additional Preferences:
  • Must have current Driver’s License
