Job Description:
Job Description Certification Details - BLS Job Details - Under
the limited supervision of the Neurodiagnostic (ND) Tech Educator
or delegated team member, prepares patients for a combination of
routine Electroencephalography (EEG), Electromyography (EMG),
long-term and intraoperative monitoring, evoked potentials, nerve
conduction velocities, autonomic testing, Neuro Interventional
radiology WADA and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) including
diagnostic and investigative studies in the laboratory, at the
bedside, and in critical care units, on all ages of patients served
by the department. - Additional duties include charge capture,
scheduling patients, and other duties as assigned. - May be
required to float to other sites to ensure optimal department
operations. - Accurately measures and applies electrodes in a
timely manner, according to the International 10-20 System. -
Ensures that electrode impedances meet laboratory standards. -
Documents a comprehensive patient history gathering appropriate
information from patient, patient's record, and family members to
include seizure types, date of last seizure, other neurological
symptoms and medications. - Explains test procedure to patient and
family members present. - Ability to recognize medical
contraindications of activation procedures. - Performs
neurodiagnostic procedures according to the standards of the
laboratory under limited supervision. - Prepares testing supplies,
exam room and neurodiagnostic equipment according to laboratory
standards. - Implements alternative methods or adjusts controls to
obtain optimal recording, including control setting changes, use of
extra electrodes, extra montages, artifact elimination, and
activation procedures. - Follows the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU)
Observer I standards of care related to collaborative communication
and maintaining quality EEG recordings. - Observes and begins
training for EMG, EVP, Autonomics, Intraoperative monitoring (IOM),
WADA and PET under limited supervision. - Triages software error
messages, equipment malfunctions, and other technical issues with
patient care under limited supervision. - Assists Tech I and enters
documentation and charges timely and correctly. - Assists front
desk with scheduling and checking in patients. - Reviews and clips
EMU and continuous EEG files according to lab standards under
limited supervision. Job Requirements - Proven ability to perform
Electroencephalography. - Preferred 2 years of proven experience as
a Neurodiagnostic Technician. - Preferred experience with Nerve
Conduction Velocity Testing, Autonomics, Long Term Monitoring,
Evoked Potentials, Magnetoencephalography. - High school graduate
or equivalent required. - Preferred graduate of an accredited
Neurodiagnostic Technology program accredited by the Committee on
Allied Health Education and Accreditation by the American Board of
Registration of Electroencephalography and Evoked Potentials
(ABRET). - Required certification: American Heart Association (AHA)
Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA
approved equivalent within 90 days of hire.
