This position is within Advanced & Applied Technology chartered for
R&D and will be based in Des Plaines, IL. The work will include
hands-on laboratory experiments, piloting / scale-up, and analysis
& simulation. This position is responsible for a variety of tasks
that require the use and application of advanced scientific methods
and tools in order to advance the technical expertise and products
of Honeywell Aerospace, at a professional level. Under limited
supervision, the Scientist uses deep technical knowledge to
complete projects and provide high-impact results. Specific areas
include, but are not limited to, the development of catalysts,
membranes, adsorbents, coatings, composites, and other advanced
materials, and also includes the development of processes necessary
to manufacture these materials into Honeywell Aerospace products.
The successful candidate will work in teams, develop, execute, and
communicate a recommended project plan as part of a larger
cross-functional team (including marketing, engineering, and
manufacturing) and external customers.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and execute R&D projects as project leader or team
member
Complete tasks within planned schedule and budget
Develop technology to Technology Readiness Level 6 and successfully
transition to Engineering and Manufacturing organizations
Conduct project documentation and virtual programmatic/technical
reviews across multiple sites
Capture intellectual property with patents and trade secrets
Generate proposals and technology roadmaps with internal or
external funding
Contribute to our world-class safety and environmental stewardship
program by always operating in a safety-conscious manner.
Develop technology that provides competitive advantages at the
component and system levels
Share knowledge with technical community and business units
Convince others within the organization where strong interest
exists to accept new concepts, practices, and approaches
Master of Science degree in:
Chemical Engineering
Chemistry
5+ years' experience in R&D of catalysis, materials and
processing and testing
Must be a US Citizen or currently a Legal Permanent Resident due to
export compliance and contractual requirements.
WE VALUE
PhD degree in Chemistry and/or Chemical Eng
Strong understanding of fundamentals of catalysis
Hands-on experience with broad range of material types, procedure
development, test stand/apparatus design and fabrication, and
characterization methods
Experience with process design and control of liquid and gas
systems
Experience with modeling and simulation techniques (e.g. Matlab,
CHEMKIN, ASPEN, etc.)
Enthusiastic with a commitment to excellence
Hands-on person who possesses the sense of urgency and drive to
achieve results
Team oriented; enthusiastic about working on interdisciplinary
teams
Good written and oral communication skills
Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision
