Job Description:

Oakton College Youth STEAM program is looking for enthusiastic and innovative instructors. More than just fun and games, our programs provide engaging and unique learning opportunities on a college campus. Students ages 8 to 12 can give their science, technology, engineering, art, and math skills a workout through a range of camps that are fun, yet academically challenging.

Essential Functions of the Position:

• Preparation of program learning activities and instructional materials (as appropriate)
• Delivery of instruction, including being prepared for and meeting programs at scheduled times,
• Compliance with departmental and institutional policies and procedures including but not limited to submission of midterm and final grades, and Compliance with institutional procedures
  
  This position requires availability to teach in the evening and/or on the weekends*. No
  
  This position requires availability to teach on both the Des Plaines and Skokie campuses*. No
  
  This position requires availability to teach online in whole or in part*. No
  
  
  
  
  Requirements:
  
  Instructors are responsible for providing high-quality instruction for youth participating in the STEM camps during the summer and beyond. Required qualifications include:
  
  
  • Must have either a degree/experience in education or significant experience in one of the content areas being taught (see below)
  • Must have demonstrated experience using technology in teaching, training, or tutoring of youth
  • Must have experience teaching, tutoring, or working with youth
  • Must be available Monday through Thursday during the day
    
    
    
    In addition to teaching responsibilities, instructors are also responsible for working with STEAM assistants and meeting project deadlines. Some courses require training which can be completed online and will begin in April. This is a seasonal position for June, July, and/or August with some opportunities for continued teaching during the Fall and Spring semesters.
    
    Youth STEM Content Area samples:
    
    
    • Computer programming such as Python and Java Script
    • Game design
    • YouTube content creation
    • eSports
      
      
      
      Preferred Qualifications (from the Minimum Qualifications for Oakton Faculty document)*:
      
      
      • Direct experience teaching/tutoring youth 8-13 on STEAM-related topics
        
        
        
        
        Additional Information:
        
        Hourly: $40-$50 hourly
        
        Must successfully complete a background check.
        
        This position is located on the Des Plaines campus.
        
        25 hours per week
