Greater Chicagoland area opportunity for a F&A professional who enjoys building relationships and coaching team members as much as crunching the numbers. The Shared Services Manager will mentor, train, equip, and enable the Accounting Staff and a Payroll Specialist to deliver exceptional results related to the accounts payable, accounts receivable and other services shared across DMI and its affiliated companies.

Supervising at least four direct staff members, the Shared Services Manager will lead the development of improved processes within shared services. Day-to-day responsibilities include the following reviewing documentation, preparing analysis, recording detailed transactions, reviewing charges for appropriate coding to the general ledger and assisting with monthly closing for financial statement preparation. In addition, the role will be the point person to undertake ad hoc projects to improve/streamline the process efficiency and effectiveness of the broader F&A department.

Key Responsibilities

• Be an ambassador for effective change by demonstrating inspirational leadership
• Develop and foster a cross-functional team approach
• Manage team members (hiring, developing, motivating, training) in order to best support current and future business needs
• Supervise, audit and review of companywide employee expense reimbursement activities
• Prepare reconciliations of expenses related to meetings and/or events
• Identify efficiencies and process improvements, and encourage team to do the same
• 990 Tax Returns - liaison with public accounting firm to ensure that all tax filings and statutory commitments are satisfied
• Responsible for and main administrator of all items and activities related to Treasury
• Prepare and file annual 1099s and 1042s where applicable
• Assist on ad hoc projects and requests including state filings, policy write-ups, training of new Board members with respect to financial controls, etc.

  Qualifications and Education Requirements
  
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance required, CPA is a plus
  • 5-7 years of supervisory experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel as well as the ability to learn new technology
  • Knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Very organized and detail-oriented with the ability to demonstrate task prioritization
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Specific payroll experience and/or experience in accounts payable and related 1099 preparation a plus
  • Non-for-Profit experience a plus
